FAITH AND JUSTICE EMPOWERMENT PROJECT (FJEP)

Faith and Justice Empowerment programme is a pastoral programme, funded by the Swiss Catholic Lenten Fund (Fastenopher). The programme aims at complementing the work of the Archdiocese of Nyeri pastoral agents by through strengthening their capacities by making them agents of change in their communities. It is an attempt to see faith communities respond to issues facing them in a practical and realistic manner, taking into account conflict sensitive demand for justice.

The project is operates in three deaneries; Kieni South, Othaya and Mukurweini deaneries.

Project Goal
Faith Communities have build their capacities towards Social Action Oriented Faith.

Objectives

  1. To increase the parishes’ leadership capacity through formation of leadership networks and coordination of leadership trainings by the end of project period.
  2. To enhance the capacity of 34 catechists as social change agents and strengthen their practical attention to social injustices during and beyond the programme period.
  3. To enhance the capacity of PPI coordinators through formation of Trainers of Trainers in a conflict sensitive and practical approach to PPI by the end of the project period.
  1.  Training leaders of Gitegi and Nganyuthe Local churches on Sustainable Agriculture and leadership skills.
  2. Training Small Christian communities on sustainable Agriculture and culture of saving
  3. Planting tress in Gitegi and Nganyuthe church compound.
  4. Mobilizing members of Nyanyuthe to plant Tomato trees and 370 bought the trees to plant to their homes.

The project has four interventions

  1. Training Parish leaders
  2. Training Catechists
  3. Training PPI teachers
  4. Coordinating Lenten campaign in the diocese.
  1. Constructed  a house to a mentally ill person in Kangaita Parish.
  2. Constructed a house and bought bed and beddings to a blind old woman in Giakanja Parish.
  3. Paid school fees to a needy boy in Endarasha High school.
  1. Some parishes not accounting the amount left in the Parishes for the Lenten Campaign.
  2. Demand of the programme outside the target area.
